" if you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun"
She is one of unique models that you may not have the chance to meet every day; Azza Abdullah, the most talented and hard-working mentor who never used to have a mentor in her life.
Back to the beginnings, Azza's big dream was to be surgeon one day, but it was destined for her to shine in another career path. From the first day, she acted as usual with her energetic spirit that never quits easily, as she said “we don’t fail when we aren’t achieving, we fail when we give up and stop trying”
Accordingly, she joined the faculty of Arts, English department. Then she was determined to continue her master degree in the English Language without taking a single course, it was all a self-learning journey.
Azza discovered her passion in teaching, when she had to cover one of her absent colleagues and give the lecture. It was her first-time teaching, without preparation, but the positive feedback she received from students that day, was her guide to discover her passion in teaching. Since that day she decided to start, she searched a lot and worked hard on herself that she can master teaching skills, in addition to acquiring one of the most important certificates in teaching; the FELT, at the AUC.
“If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun.”
Azza became a well-known figure in most of the English teaching academies. Joining SYE, which she calls “A second home” it is where all her success and glory started. Soon after she was highly recommended to teach in Cairo University, at the faculty of Engineering. It was a great challenge to her that she had to be fully prepared for and she successfully did. She joined the Nile University afterwards. Besides studying for her master’s.
Azza got promoted sooner as a supervisor, then a certified trainer, till she became an education manager at SYE.
Being an education manager means no more handling students but teachers, which was so challenging to her, but as she believes “Failure is a success in progress.”
Our mentor experienced temporary failure for the first three days that she was thinking of quitting the job, besides receiving negative feedback for the first time in her teaching life, from one of her groups, she was shocked but instead of quitting or taking things from a subjective point of view, she isolated herself at one of the classes and wrote down all her weaknesses points to improve them.
At this point she decided to try different strategies and methodologies, and to follow the instructions of her CEO as well, till he himself certified her and said “Azza you don’t need feedback anymore.”
“Great heroes are those who know when to rest and when to resist, yet it’s all about prioritizing” having always busy working days, makes it hard to balance and find time for your family or yourself, but our hero has her priorities clear; saying that “I am always there for my family whatever the situation is, they always come first, then I have me-time”
"In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present."
It was one of the hard times our teacher went through that took her a year to recover, during which she lost all meanings of life, and she was always depressed, even she wasn’t able to move forward, just ending her daily duties and tasks.
She was recharged again by reminding herself of her worth, her success and her journey and the positive feedbacks she receives, and by achieving even more; some of the achievements she accomplished were:
•Getting the acceptance for her master’s.
•Studying Teacher Trainer at Arizona University.
•Acquiring Leadership development certificate at TESOL international associations.
•Studying TESOL methodology at the University of Maryland.
•Being a professor at Al-Ahram Canadian.
When Azza was asked "why do you fight or wake up every day?", she answered: “It's me, no giving up, no regrets", Azza can influence and inspire others through her work, I do learn new thing every day, and I teach new things every day, I help others, things I would never achieve without struggling and working hard.”
Voluntary Work is an inseparable part of our teacher’s success journey, the thing that she does as a way of showing appreciation and being thankful for Allah’s mercies and blessings on her;
AZZA volunteered as:
•A teacher trainer at Resalah
•A coordinator at the AUC (TESIG)
•A presenter and speaker at the AUC (RELO)
•A trainer of trainees at (SYS)
“Be successful once, and you will always be hungry for more”
Future Azza is still looking for more success and accomplishments; so, she is preparing herself for acquiring The PHD in linguistics, DELTA certificate, Cambridge certificate in management and teacher training, and establishing her own business in the field of teacher training.
Her advice to the current and coming generations is “Never give up, try hard millions of times, eventually you will gain something in return. Never lose trust in Allah, he awards hard workers and believers.” “Working hard will lead to working smart, you excerpt the effort then you will be awarded for this.”
