Five reasons behind the success of the Jordanian film INSHALLAH A BOY
Amjad Al-Rasheed’s INSHALLAH A BOY has been on quite the festival tour, participating in around 100 film festivals and winning more than 20 awards.
With the critical hit heading to the Amman International Film Festival and soon releasing in theaters across the GCC, we’ve decided to tell you about the top five reasons behind the film's success:
The First Jordanian Film to go to Cannes
The film held a historic world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival Critics’ Week, going down in history as one of the first two Jordanian films to be selected by the French powerhouse festival and taking home the Gan Foundation Award and the Rail D'Or for Best Feature Film.
Was Jordan’s submission for the 96th Oscars
The Royal Film Commission of Jordan selected the film to represent the country as its main submission for Best International Feature at the 96th Academy Awards after its overwhelming success on the festival trail.
Participated in Over 100 International and Local Festivals
Following its world premiere at Cannes, INSHALLAH A BOY embarked on a remarkable journey, going on an extensive tour that included big-ticket events like the Rotterdam Arab, Toronto, Malmö Arab, Red Sea, and Beirut International Women's film festivals, to name but a few.
A Bold and Captivating Narrative
The film addresses the complex issue of inheritance in Arab societies, as Nawal resorts to cunning tactics after her husband's sudden death to secure her and her daughter's rights to their home, which was not safeguarded for them by the deceased's will.
Excellent Reviews from Critics Worldwide
The film received glowing reviews across the board with Tara Judah of Screen Daily writing that Al-Rasheed "deftly makes use of scope and framing to maintain the intimacy of the story," while Amber Wilkinson from Eye for Film adding that he "employs his metaphors skillfully." Topping it all off, Ankit Jhunjhunwala of the International Cinephile Society went as far as saying that "based on this gripping new film, anticipation for subsequent films from this region should be high."
