From PR to Storytelling and All in Between, Assem Omar: A Journey by Him for Him
‘’ I was excessively bullied for being different and determined from a young age. I honored discipline and still continue to do so because I see it as the algorithm that keeps everything in place.’’
Assem Omar
Assem Amr Omar. He has just turned 24 years old recently and he has attended the Faculty of Languages and Translation and graduated in 2019 and currently doing his MBA …From the early ages of 17, he began to wrap his head around the hobbies and interests he came to know of and taken a liking to and came to the conclusion that he had a huge passion for attaining managerial value as well as dabbling in various fields he has been introduced to such as PR and Strategic Communications.
He knew that in order to get where he wanted to be, he had to put in the work, so from there on out he began to enroll in multiple job positions such as Vodafone,Bibliotheca Alexandrina,Presentation Sports & IDC MENA and volunteered for 9 years with Interact & Alpha Leo to better his communication and people skills as well as build his character in order to understand himself more and figure out the person he wants to become. He has decided to do so adjacent to university to get a head start and assert his independence, and to do so, he attained 2 jobs and it was no easy task.
He struggled to keep a timely sleeping schedule and sometimes he would even sleep in transportation channels to and from work to university during finals. He had to travel also between two cities everyday for 2 years to study and put in the work at the same time to pursue his passion and be content with his results. He has to say that these decisions shaped who he is today and have helped him by exposing him to intangible factors and situations that he is sure most people his age wouldn’t encounter.
His journey wasn’t necessarily easy but it was truly worthwhile. He is truly passionate about what he is doing and it brings him joy looking back at what he has done because there came a time where he thought he was just a young boy with a big dream. There were also times where he thought to himself, give up, it’s too much juggling both education and work. School wasn’t necessarily his cup of tea either, he was excessively bullied for being different and determined from a young age. He honored discipline and still continue to do so because he see it as the algorithm that keeps everything in place.
It was his sole mission to showcase his skills and constantly learn from his mistakes in order to better himself for his future self,. Glory and success came where credit was due, but to him, he considers himself a project constantly in the making. Earlier this year he was the youngest Conference Project Manager at a multinational leading marketing corporation and managed a team in which all its members were older than him by a minimum of 6-10 years and currently he is the PR and Communications Director at Techne Summit and PR and Communications Consultant mainly for SMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs…
He has tackled hurdles due to his age and struggled to be taken seriously in various industries that to him was the biggest struggle of all, which is why he had to prove them all wrong. He received mass rejection countless times yet surprisingly some of them came back now seeking his consultancy. His message to all his counterparts and the newbies is to never give up, always hussle, chase your dreams, trust the process and never compare yourself to others as each of us has their own timeline.
